Game Gophers Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Game Gophers (the "App," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses the information you and your customers provide when you install and use the "Game Gophers" Shopify application (the "App").

1. Our Role

When you install the App, we act as a Data Processor on behalf of the Shopify Merchant (you), the Data Controller. We process data only as necessary to provide the App’s service to your store, in accordance with your instructions, and in compliance with the Shopify Partner Program Agreement and applicable data protection laws.

2. Information We Collect

We collect and process two main types of information: Merchant Information (Identifiable) and Anonymous Customer Interaction Data (Non-Identifiable).

A. Merchant Information (Collected Directly from you)

This data is used to provide service, manage your account, and communicate with you.

B. Anonymous Customer Interaction Data (Collected from your Customers)

The Game Gophers App does NOT collect any Personal Information, such as names, email addresses, IP addresses, or location data, from your customers.

Instead, we collect and process the following anonymous data points solely to provide the gamification features, using a unique, randomly generated ID that is not linked to any personal identifier.

3. How We Use the Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide and Maintain the Service: To operate and provide the core gamification, loyalty, and rewards functionality of the Game Gophers App, relying on the Anonymous Identifier to maintain a persistent state.
  • To Personalize the Experience (Anonymously): To customize the in-app games, reward tiers, and display content for the individual browser/device associated with the Anonymous Identifier.
  • To Communicate: To respond to support requests, send administrative notices, and inform you (the Merchant) about updates or changes to the App.
  • For Optimization and Security: To improve the App's logic, fix bugs, detect and prevent fraud, and maintain the security of the App and its data.
  • For Compliance: To comply with legal obligations, such as billing and tax requirements, and to enforce our Terms of Service.

4. Sharing Your Personal Information

We will never sell, rent, or trade your or your customers' Personal Information. We share data only with trusted third parties (sub-processors) who require the information to perform essential services on our behalf.

Cloud Services (Google Cloud Platform)Used for managing background tasks, asynchronous communication, and data pipeline management. Specifically, we use Google Cloud Pub/Sub to reliably receive uninstall webhooks from Shopify and initiate the 48-hour data deletion process for Merchant Information.
Analytics ProvidersWe do not currently share data with any external analytics providers.
Legal ComplianceIf required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, or the rights of others (e.g., fraud prevention).

5. Data Retention

We retain Personal Information (Merchant Data) for as long as is necessary to provide the App's services and to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy.

  • If you uninstall the Game Gophers App, we will automatically delete or anonymize all Merchant Information within 48 hours, unless we are legally obligated to retain it for a longer period.
  • Anonymous Customer Interaction Data is retained only for the duration of the App's installation on your store, and is deleted or anonymized upon uninstallation.

6. Your Rights and Your Customers' Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Since we do not collect or store any identifying Personal Information about your customers, requests for access, rectification, or erasure concerning customer data cannot be fulfilled by us as we have no means to identify or link the Anonymous ID to a real person.

  • As the Merchant (Data Controller), you are responsible for handling your customers' data rights requests concerning data collected by Shopify and other apps you use.
  • Regarding the Game Gophers App's data: The data is already anonymous and cannot be traced back to an individual.

7. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy within the App and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy.
